In his latest move to shake things up at Newsweek, CEO Thomas
Ascheim has named longtime digital sales exec Pamela Raley as chief
revenue officer overseeing all sales efforts, a new position for
the newsweekly.
Raley had headed sales and marketing for Hearst Magazines' digital
media unit from December 2006 to February, when she was replaced by
Kristine Welker. Before joining Hearst, she spent seven years at
the Disney Internet Group, most recently as vp, sales and
marketing, from 2001-2005.
Reporting to Raley will be Newsweek's domestic and international
publishers, Patrick Hagerty and Rhona Murphy.
"Pamela is a digital native who will lead our sales teams as we
expand into the digital age," said Ascheim, a former Viacom vet who
became CEO of the Washington Post Co. subsidiary in October 2007.
Ascheim said Raley would "help build expertise in the cross-media
selling we have had so much success with in recent years and keep
our print sales vibrant."
Raley is Ascheim's second recent big hire after Geoff Reiss, a
former longtime ESPN executive who was named to the newly created
position of general manager, replacing Dierdre Depke, Newsweek
Digital.
