The Big West Conference and ESPN have signed a five-year TV rights deal that includes a minimum of 12 national men’s basketball telecasts a year, along with other league events, primarily on ESPNU and ESPN2.

Big West games have aired on ESPN in the past, but the new agreement expands the number of games to be telecasts. The leagues initial partnership with ESPN began in 1987.

ESPN executive vp of content, John Skipper, has said he is looking to add more live game telecasts to all ESPN platforms, and this is another deal that takes a step in that direction.

Since it isn’t every day I have the chance to interview a megastar (and impress my two teenage children in the process), this week’s column is devoted to the one—and only—Gene Simmons, with whom I spoke on camera during our Mediaweek All-Stars luncheon last week.
